The UK is full of fun and vibrant cities, but few are as varied and colourful as Liverpool.
Of course, famous for The Beatles, Liverpool FC, the Mersey, and that unique accent, Liverpool is a fantastic destination for a few days in a city, and out of all the UK cities, it is probably one of my major favourites.
The great thing about Liverpool is that it’s quite easy to get around on foot, and all the major sights are signposted, with estimated distances and times. Wandering around is also a great way to find something different, something you weren’t expecting to see, and stumbling upon such things is often the best way to finding unexpected gems!
Of course, there are the main attractions in Liverpool and experiences you should have. Check out these 5 that our Singapore Travel Blog recommends for your next visit to Liverpool.
You can’t visit Liverpool and not go for a bracing walk along the docks! These have been renovated over recent years to make them a little more cosmopolitan, but they still retain a lot of their old charm and working class roots, giving you plenty of history of the city itself. You’ll find restaurants and coffee shops along the way, as well as plenty of look-out points across the Mersey. Just behind the docks towards the city you will see the Liver Building, overlooking the water and the city itself – this is a great photo to have in your collection, with the famous Liver bird sitting on top.
The Beatles Tour & Cavern Club
These are two separate entities, but we’ll lump them together for prosperity! The Beatles Story does pretty much what it says on the tin, it tells you the history and story of one of the most famous bands in history, who of course hailed from the city itself. This is a major attraction and one which often draws crowds, so prepare to queue! On top of this, you have the iconic Cavern Club, situated at 10 Mathew Street in the city centre. This is where the band played back in the day, as well as being famous for many other bands too. This is a popular spot to visit.
Hop on and off tour bus
This might be a very touristy thing to do but it’s also the best way to see a lot during a short space of time. You’ll get audio commentary, telling you the history and importance of what you’re seeing, as well as checking out the two cathedrals in the city, China Town, and many other important sights within a large space. For the price of one ticket you can hop on and off as many times as you like.
If you love shopping then this is the mall for you! Even the streets around the colourful Liverpool One are packed with shops and restaurants, but this is where you will find the major named stores in one place. Basically, if you’re a shopping fan then Liverpool will blow your mind!
Anfield stadium is of course the historic home of Liverpool FC, where massive named legends of the game once played. If you’re a reds supporter then this is the must visit spot for you, and again this is a massively popular attraction so do expect a queue or two!
Ferry across the Mersey
Aside from the famous Jerry & The Pacemakers song, you can actually take a ferry across the Mersey. This is a great attraction for all the family, and a great chance to see the city landscape from a different viewpoint.
Liverpool is packed with things to see and do, and on top of this it has a real authentic, friendly vibe to it, which makes it the perfect must-visit spot for visitors who are touring Europe.
