One of Singapore’s greatest strength lies in our transport system, on how Singapore’s government has pride itself in building one of the most efficient transportation systems in the world. However, with the increase in convenience in getting around, there are certain downsides to it, like the fact that once deserted areas are now flooded with people.
Be it if you’re looking to bring your date out for a nice quiet evening or if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of people as a whole, finding serenity in Singapore has never been harder.
So for your dating pleasure, our Singapore Food Blog have put together a list of 32 Ulu Restaurants in Singapore that you can bring your date to on those nights you get to borrow the family car or when you rent a car to give him/her a day out they wouldn’t soon forget.
ULU (Adj)
Rural and Remote Areas that are relatively Inaccessible
1. Alkaff Mansion
Located near Telok Blangah Hill, Alkaff Mansion is easily one of the most romantic place that you can bring your date to. It features award winning italian food that is set in a colonial house setting.
Location: UPDATE! Alkaff Mansion has ceased operation since August 2016
2. Bark Café
Bark café is suited right next to the Changi Chapel and is normally not the first place that comes to your mind when you are looking for a drink. But for those of us that don’t like being normal, all that just makes Bark Café all the more awesome. Forget Zouk and the usual drinking places, surprise your date with a relaxing night out at Bark.
Location: 1000 Upper Changi Rd N, 507707
3. Boufe
Opened in 2015, Boufe is one of the hippest, if not the hippest café around as of late. Boufe, as a café, takes on a minimalistic concept and has been widely popular as an Instagram OOTD spot. Aside from being instagram worthy, their cakes, French toast and Salted Egg Crayfish also deserve a special mention.
Location: 308 Tanglin Road, Phoenix Park, #01-01, S247974
4. Chuckwagon
If you are a fan of western BBQ grill and hate the crowd, this is the place for you. Located at the secluded Portsdown Rd, Chuckwagon is at least a 15mins walk from any nearest MRT station which means that lesser crowd for the merry making men. Have some meat and drink to your hearts content at Chuckwagon.
Location: 7 Portsdown Rd, Singapore 139298
5. Coastal settlement
Coastal Settlement is another one of the more popular spots on the list. Perfect for the weekend brunch, Coastal settlement offers more than just their food. Get prepared to travel back in time with Vespas and Volkswagen Bettles as wall art on a relaxing Sunday brunch with your friends and love ones. A point to note however, Coastal Settlement is very popular and a pre-booking is often recommended. Parking is also often an issue and I would suggest heading there earlier in the event that there are no available lots in front of the café or at the nearby public carpark.
Location: 200 Netheravon Rd, Singapore 508529
6. Grub/Cornerstone
Located in the heart of Bishan Park and away from Train stations, Cornerstone isn’t exactly the most ideal place to go to when you don’t have a car. But when transport isn’t an issue, you get to enjoy a perfect brunch while being surrounded by the greenery and sounds of nature that Bishan Park has to offer.

Location: 10 Lock Road, 108938
10. Ivins/Pepperoni Pizza
If you like peranakan food, there’s no better place to have them then at Ivins. However, despite being relatively inaccessible, Ivins still has a pretty large crowd most of the time. So if you cant wait or don’t fancy having peranakan food, how about induldging in pizzas that are twice the size of your face? The famous pepperoni pizza also has an outlet right next to Ivins which serves the same awesome pizza but with a much shorter queue than the one at suntec.

11. Jewel Box
Of all the places on the list, none is more inaccessible than Jewel Box that is located on Mt Faber. It’s relatively affordable and it’s one for both the young and old.

Another one for the romantic couple, Prive is suited right beside Keppel Bay where dinner there includes a view of parked yachts accompanied by the gentle sea breeze. Prive is splited into 3 parts, the café, the bar and the grill. The Grill goes for $58+ for a 3 course meal and $48+ for a two course meal. The portions are big and food is delicious. So no matter if youre heading there for a drink, desserts or dinner, Prive is a must to visit regardless.
Location: 2 Keppel Bay Vista, Singapore 098382
18. Quayside Isle
A good alternative to Prive is Quayside Isle which offers the same view of parked Yachts (much bigger ones), sea and the perfect sunset. Quayside Isle isn’t a restaurant per say, but is instead a stretch of area along W hotel sentosa that has multiple bars/restaurants. We don’t have a specific restaurant to recommend, but really, who really cares about the food when the view is this good. Even if you are not heading there for dinner, Quayside Isle still makes an amazing spot to do a romantic walk with your partner.
Location: 31 Ocean Way, Sentosa Cove, Singapore, 098375
19. Riders Café
You cannot write an article about Nice Ulu Resturants without mentioning Riders. Riders Café has been one of the most popular dating spots amongst youngsters and for good reason. Unlike some of others on the list that emphasizes more on the ambience, to us, Strangers Reunion is more memorable for it’s food. That’s not to say that the setting of the place isn’t beautiful, but it’s just how Strangers Reunion offers one of the BEST Waffles we have personally had. That on it’s own has had us returning time and time again. Coffee lovers should would also love this place as it is home to multiple award winning baristas.

26. White Rabbit – Dempsey
While there are plenty of famous restaurants along Dempsey, we personally recommend White Rabbit (We will also be holding our wedding there sometime next year). White Rabbit is an old church that offers one of the, if not the most romantic setting any restaurant has to offer. The ambience sets both you and your partner into a relaxing and calm mood for you to enjoy not just the great food, but bask in each other’s company. Forget the world and snap away in White Rabbit’s famous garden and rabbit hole.

27. Whisk and Paddle
Set beside Punggol Serangoon Reservoir, Whisk and Paddle is another hidden gem that is not known to many. We would dare bet that you have seen their famous blue door on your facebook/instagram feed prior to this. That’s cause those who visit Wheelers yard often can’t resist taking their OOTD shots at their Iconic Blue Door. 30. Wild Rocket @ Mt Emily
Of all the resturants and café listed, Wild Rocket is perhaps the most accessible of the lot as it is located right in the heart of town. In fact, getting to wild rocket can be done without a car and all you have to do is take a train to dhoby ghaut. However, from there, you would have to climb a flight of stairs up Mt Emily to get to wild rocket. But for those that do eventully get there, you’ll be rewarded with a classy quiet dinner serving locally created dishes.
Location: 10A Upper Wilkie Rd, Singapore 228119
31. Wimbly Lu
Love tarts and pasteries? Wimbly Lu is the hidden gem that you would have to explore. Housed in Jalan Riang, Wimbly Lu is the café that not many people know about. They offer fantastic pastries and a relaxing glass roof concept for a casual weekday/weekend dining. Our personal favourite was the Lemon Tart which had the right amount of acidity that was coupled perfectly with it’s soft crunchy crust.
32. Tuckshop
Its not uncommon to see groups of people drinking together in the middle of the day when you walk past The Tuckshop. That’s cause the Tuckshop is more of a Social hangout spot than a resturant in our opinion. Chill out with your friends or just hang around and watch the world go by in a casual and relaxed environment whilst sipping on special beers that are not found anywhere else.
Volvo Singapore recently approached our Travel blog and sponsored us their Volvo V40 Cross Country for the weekend (Read the full Volvo V40 Cross Country Review). While we could have just use it for our everyday life, we thought to ourselves what better way to test the car than to travel to as many of these Ulu resturants as we can throughout the weekend.
