As most of you may have already know, our Singapore Travel Blog took a 14 day trip to Australia some time in October last year (the one where we Skydived and got engaged). Out of the 14 days we were there, we spent 5 days on a Australia Road trip from Brisbane to Sydney.
Till date, it is still one of the best road trip we have had in all our Travels! The good thing about Australia is that even though the country by itself is huge, most of the big cities are drive-able and reachable via road trips.
Most of the bigger car rental companies within Australia allows you to rent from one city and return the car in another. So you can just set your mind at ease and enjoy the scenic coastal route along the cities.
The best thing about going on a road trip is that you get to pop by places that are otherwise not accessible. This not only means that you’ll be able to go to less touristy areas, you’ll also be able to experience a country on a whole different level.
Our Australia Road trip form Brisbane to Sydney saw us dropping by Gold Coast and the lesser known but equally beautiful places such as Fingal head at Kingscliff, Port Macquerie etc. We had our luggages in the back and the flexibility to stop whenever and whereever we felt like it.
It took us awhile, but we finally did a 5 part video summary of our Australia Road Trip from Brisbane to Sydney and you can watch all our adventures from Horseback riding to Quad biking on Sand dunes etc right here:

Hi Alvin & Nicole ! Really love the way you guys blog about all the trips you guys visited uh! Anyway i got some enquiries about going from gold coast to Sydney. Hope you guys can help out.
Its my first time going to Australia and Im planning a 2 weeks solo road trip from GS to Sydney on July period by renting a car there. Hoping you can guys can give some help out with the itinerary. Also should i book airbnb along the way or can i drive to different towns and stay at the hostel/Motel on the day itself.
Thanks in advance !!!
OH YOU SHOULD ABSOLUTELY DRIVE! The route from GS to Sydney hugs the coast so it would be a pretty scenic drive. Driving also allows you to stop as and when you want to and visit many of the less as touristy but super beautiful places. Just remember to keep your speed in check when youre driving there cause they impose super heavy fines for speeding, read: http://livelaughtravel.net/oceania/australia/speed-limit-australia-fine/
Personally, we opted for Airbnb all the way and just rented a private room. I guess you can try and pop by on the day itself too. I had a friend who did that but for her case, the motel she happened to pop by was really run down and just less as clean. We chose AirBnb for the peace of mind of having a place to stay, but we planned our route prior and i gave myself a good allowance with regards to time so we didnt have to rush or anything like that. Staying with an Airbnb host also has other benefits such as being able to read reviews about the place and having someone to recommend you some of the scenic / nice food places in the area.
With regards to the itinerary, i have been wanting to write a full article about our GS to Sydney Roadtrip for the longest time but ive just been constantly procrastinating. I’ll get down to writing it and have it up within these 2 weeks alright? 🙂
In the meantime, you can subscribe to our mailing list and/or like or facebook page so you’ll know first hand when the article is up!
